"Everyday Miracles"
I read one of Dr. Nelson's other books, "Get Your Way". I got so much out of that one that when I saw this...I bought it right away. After reading "Everyday Miracles" I know I will be a lifelong fan of all Dr. Nelson's books. This book tackles everday problems we all go through, discusses and acknowledges our frustrations and then gives us an opportunity to change it. Each topic is different and it was difficult to put the book down because I wanted to know what the next one was and what she might say about it. As usual, Dr. Nelson, with a sense of humor, takes serious subjects and gently helps me to see how I can choose to make my life better. I can see why this is called "everyday" miracles.

Uplifting and Motivating
Reading Everyday Miracles has left me feeling uplifted and motivated to deal with some unsatisfying areas of my life. This book has empowered me. It has given me the tools I need. Dr. Nelson's no-nonsense approach makes facing the problems in my life seem doable, not such a daunting task. I am grateful I read Everyday Miracles. It was just what I needed!

A New Perspective That Works
This is great! I now have a source to go to whenever I need to clarify some issue in my life. This book shows you clearly how to look at the difficult situations in your life calmly and from all sides. It shows you how nothing is either too big or too small to put right. Everyday Miracles can give you a new perspective on life's challenges that really works. I know it did for me!

Hole Is to Dig: A First Book of First Definitions
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Ruth Krauss, Nelson, and Maurice Sendak
Average review score:

An overlooked classic -- Early Sendak for kids and adults
This book is a terrific classic -- a listing of definitions, "laws" if you will, that are really almost self-evident in childhood. Each page contains a collection of drawings that illustrate the definition of something. The illustrations tend to show the early Sendak style, but in this book, there is essentially no overwhelming background -- each boy or girl or dog is illustrated in black and white (or beige). Each picture is self-contained, but there is some flow to the text on certain pages.

It's difficult to describe this book, but there is really a separate level for adults in these definitions that makes this an enjoyable read for parent and child. For the adult, this book evokes the simplest play of childhood and a return to certain basic principles that were probably totally accepted and later forgotten. I don't know why, but this is an overlooked classic. I can't think of another book like this.

A wonderful book that my kids want to hear over and over
Or maybe it's me that picks out the book over and over at bedtime. I was really touched the other day when my 5-year-old son helped my 3-year-old son zip his jacket, looked at me and said "a brother is to help." A great book that everyone should read.

Mind-blowing! brilliant!
My girlfriend got this book as a Christmas present, and I picked it up and read it. We don't know why it isn't listed with the zen books! Simple, profound truths about the world we live in: dishes are to do.

Holy Bible New King James Version Compact Reference Bibles S
I purchased 2 of these Bibles for my sons. The price was great. I saved [money] on each Bible compared to the price I would have paid for the same Bibles at a book store here. It is a perfect size for little hands like kids have. I rate this #1 kjv version only.

My Soul Winners Bible!
I just bought my second bible of this type. I left my last one inside my jacket pocket back home in the states when I left for missionary service in Brazil. Due to the cost of shipping and all I chose to just purchase a second one through Amazon.com and have it shipped to me direct in the field. (Yes they will do that!!!) I call this little bible my Soul Winners Bible because it can be with me all the time and ready when I need it. At home in the states I take it to work in my shirt pocket or tuck it away inside my clipboard. It has both the Old and New Testaments so I'm not caught without the passage I'm looking for when I need to show someone a prophecy or reference from Isaiah or Proverbs etc. Just a note to those who want to Win Souls for Christ and aren't sure how to organize themselves properly...
1)Get a new clean bible like this one that hasn't been marked up with highlight pens and notes yet.
2) Get a box of colored paper clips and some colored highlight and underline pens.
3) Get several tracts at your local Christian bookstore and do some study.
4)Take the relevant verses and Highlight them and Mark the pages with the colored paper clips. I would recommend you use a system like this one: Red (Blood of Christ) = Salvation. Use Red to mark specific salvation verses from John and Romans... Black= Sin (For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God...) Blue=Water in the River of Eternal Life Use Blue to mark your eternal Life passages. Yellow= Caution U turn ahead. And Green= Grace Eph 2: 8-10
5)Study the Passages and the tracts and do some earnest Prayer for the Lord to send people whom you can minister to.
6)It is good to pass out tracts... but doing so is not a substitute for building relationships and sharing the gospel and "Giving your personal Testimony..."
7)If you don't have a personal testimony or are not sure how to talk about it... Pray about it and talk to your pastor. He will be able to give you advice on a more personal basis and help you in discipleship.

God Bless you each and all...
Until our Lord comes in the clouds and we meet Him in the air
Your Brother in Christ
Mr. Maranatha
(...)

Added Bonus
My beautiful wife gave me this bible for my birthday. It's the perfect size for my doctor's bag, which I take to church. The bonus is that it's "self-pronouncing." A most welcome suprise in that it's not mentioned in the description. Thanks Hon!

The Human Thing

Another masterpiece!
After reading K.N.'s first book (Daughter of Dragons), I didn't think I'd find one I'd like better.... but she did it. Human Thing brings out the "fighter" in all of us, and reminds us about what our identity is really all about. Another "can't put it down" read, which I encourage anyone to pick up --> not just sci-fi lovers. You'll love Jillian as much as the rest of us have!

I'll sign on as one of the crew
This book was too good to put down, so I have just wiled away a very pleasant afternoon caught up in the adventures of Captain D'Lange. Call her a cyborg or a refab, but she still has guts! The author manages to weave in humour and insight with some pretty cool science. This is definitely worth a read.

WHEEEEEEE!! WHAT FUN!!
For 30 minutes each night, I WAS Captain Jillian D'Lange...heroine,tragic,triumphant,challenged, emotionally charged. Reconstruction could not wipe away her vulnerability...and that, more than anything, is why Jillian is alive in all of us... in some fashion, at some time. Need a light?

Indiana Legends: Famous Hoosiers from Johnny Appleseed to David Letterman
Published in Hardcover by Guild Press of Indiana (01 October, 1997)
Author: Nelson Price
Average review score:

What is the definition of a Hoosier?
Alas, the book 'Indiana Legends: Famous Hoosiers from Johnny Appleseed to David Letterman' does not offer a definitive answer to this article's title question: What is the definition of a Hoosier? Kevin Kline's recent film 'In and Out', set in the not-so-mythical Greenleaf, Indiana, had a scene near the conclusion where the teacher of the year was trying to deliver a speech with the same title, only to get interrupted before giving the answer. Perhaps the answer contained in this book is not so much a dictionary-style answer, but rather the collective experience of people such as those represented in this book.

The author, Nelson Price, has been a reporter for the Indianapolis Star and News newspapers, the state's largest papers, for over 15 years. Born in Indianapolis, educated at Indiana University, he is a fifth generation Hoosier; his great-great-grandfather arrived in the state just about the time of Indiana achieving statehood. Thus, if anyone has background qualification for producing such a text as this, it would be Price.

Indiana is well represented in the history of the American nation. Three presidents: William Henry Harrison, his grandson Benjamin Harrison were Hoosiers, and Abraham Lincoln claimed substantial Hoosier influence in his backgrounds. Other historical figures in the country's political and historical development include John Chapman (Johnny Appleseed), George Rogers Clark, Tecumseh, Frances Slocum, Robert Owen, Eugene V. Debs, Wendell Willkie, and Dan Quayle (eek!). Indiana has in fact had five vice presidents, including Schuyler Colfax and Thomas Marshall.

Little known fact: Reggie Miller and Jane Pauley were both diagnosed with ailments in their childhoods that would have ruled out most any productive role in adult life, Pauley with nervous disorders, and Miller with a crippling childhood disease.

Hoosiers in Hollywood and the performing arts include Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, James Dean, Steve McQueen, Anne Baxter, Karl Malden, Clifton Webb, Red Skelton, Carole Lombard, John Mellencamp, Florence Henderson, David Letterman, Michael Jackson, Crystal Gayle, Shelley Long, Joshua Bell and Twyla Tharp. Writers and artists include Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Robert Indiana (could have guessed that, right?), Jim Davis (of Garfield fame), T.C. Steele, James Whitcomb Riley, Booth Tarkington, and Theodore Dreiser.

Famous business people have included Madame Walker (the first self-made black millionaire), Eli Lilly, the Studebaker family (yes, the cars), the Ball brothers, and J. Irwin Miller, all known not only for their entrepreneurial spirit, but also their philanthropic drive. The Lilly Endowment is one of the largest in the world today.

Little known fact: 'Go West, Young Man!' is a phrase coined by an Indiana newspaper reporter.

Indiana is also the state of Ryan White, the child AIDS activist whose name became familiar all over the world. It is home Sandi Patty, the gospel singer, and Jane Pauley, the television journalist. It is the birthplace of the fashion designer Bill Blass and the childhood home of Halston. It is the home of sex research Alfred Kinsey and the gangster John Dillinger. It is the home of journalist Ernie Pyle and publisher Eugene Pulliam. It is the birthplace of high flyers Orville and Wilbur Wright (now, there aren't too many states in the nation where a family would have both an Orville and a Wilbur, don't you know...)

Indiana wouldn't be Indiana without sports, particularly basketball, and boasts such legends as Larry Bird, Bob Knight, Oscar Robertson, George McGinnis, and Bobby Plump. Racing goes without saying, too, in Indiana, and the names such as Bettenhausen, Andretti, and Gordon are legendary in the sport. Mark Spitz, Kurt Thomas, Doc Counsilman, Jaycie Phelps, Don Mattingly, and Knute Rockne are other well-known names in the sporting world.

Little known fact: Carl Fisher, the founder of the Indianapolis 500, took his fortune to found Miami Beach, Florida, where he died penniless.

So, you now have a perhaps overblown sense of who comes from Indiana. So what?

Perhaps the best thing about this book is to give a sense of pride of place to native Hoosiers. I am a firm believer that knowing one's personal history is very important, and this includes a sense of the place where one is born and raised. There is, among my acquaintances who have come from elsewhere in the world to live here, a decided reluctance to admit the term 'Hoosier' applies to themselves. For the longest time, I thought that no one actually comes from Indiana, or that perhaps Indiana is a good place to be from, but not a quality to be valued. Nelson Price's book is somewhat of a revelation in that sense, in that it shows the great diversity of persons in a wide range of human endeavours who were born in or had significant residence in Indiana. Once, Steve Martin made a comment describing a place as 'nowhere, USA', and he picked a town in Indiana. Perhaps Indiana is somewhat distant from the 'centre of all things', be that New York, Los Angeles, London, wherever one might choose. However, perhaps its critics are a bit too harsh on the state, and the history of this relatively small place needs to be re-examined, not least by those who reside here.

Little known fact: William Henry Harrison built a plantation as a Governor's Residence in Indiana, and called it Grouseland.

The Hoosier state is richer in history than might at first meet the eye. Nelson Price's book puts in small, journalistic-style stories, accessible narratives of the people who make up this history, past and present. This would make a great gift to anyone who lives in Indiana, who is moving to Indiana, or has a significant Indiana experience in the past.

Little known fact: A large number of astronauts have come from Indiana, and those who were not Hoosier natives often have a Hoosier connection - education from Purdue University, renowned for engineering.

This is a coffee-table book. Wonderful pictures of people past and present, good print production and nice formatting make this a pleasant volume to read.

This book should be on the shelf of every Hoosier
This book is the most exhaustive study of Indiana natives available today. Written in the same conversation style that he uses in his newspaper column, Nelson Price relates the "rise to fame and fortune" stories of many familiar personalities. And to receive such a terrific hardcover book for this price is almost criminal. Everyone should buy a copy today!

Excellent gift book
I was thoroughly entertained and captured by this book. Furthermore, I was thrilled to receive such a large and handsome hardcover book. Everyone should give a copy to every Hoosier they know!

Job-Hunting for the So-Called Handicapped or People Who Have Disabilities
Published in Paperback by Ten Speed Press (15 October, 2001)
Authors: Richard Nelson Bolles and Dale Susan Brown
Average review score:

A Wonderful Book
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Written by Dale Susan Brown and Richard Nelson Bolles(Author of What Color is Your Parachute), it is a simple and concise guide to finding a job if you have a disability. It pulls no punches and tells it the way it is.
It gives simple, concise advice on how to conduct a job search, and what to do in an interview. It tells you how keep a prospective employer from getting nervous about your disability, and how to communicate in an interview in an honest and positive way.
If you are person with a disability this is a terrific book, if you have a co-worker with a disability, it is a terrific book, if you have people working for you with disabilities it is a terrific book, and if you are a "normal" person (whatever that is...} it is a terrific book.
The advice in the book leverages the expertise of both authors and is sound and easy to understand. It also helps you to do a better job, once you have employment. The book is highly recommended for everyone!

WOW -- What a book
WOW - What a book, co-authored by Dale Brown and Richard Bolles, the world known author of What Color is Your Parachute. Dale and Richard have developed a book full of concepts, how to and methods for empowering those of us with disabilities to want to seek out employment against the roadblocks that confront the normal job search.

The book is a MUST READ! A "must read" for even people who are currently employed; as it will give you the insight of what a person with a disability will go thru during their job search. Any temporary able bodied person may become disabled at any time in their employed life. Your "employment life" will be altered forever; thru no fault of your own doing.

No one chapter stands out. Each chapter carries its' own weight for the total read of this outstanding document.

I wish the authors great success with an excellent and easy to read reference book and a solid companion to WHAT COLOR IS YOUR PARACHUTE!

The authors have broken down yet another barrier!

Great book for job-hunters with special needs.
This is a great book for the individual with a disability who is thinking about getting off public assistance or who is just planning to switch jobs. This would also be a good book for any employer who might hire an individual with a disability.

Often both employers and prospective employees have misconceptions about what the law says about disabilitiy. The book explains how the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) protects individuals with disabilities. At the same time, it also explains what the ADA will not do.

I particularly liked the section on creative ways to interview for a job. Having a disability may make one seem strange and unfamiliar to a prospective employer. The book suggests creative ways to emphasize how one is also similar to the employer. Even if you do not have a disability, you may still want to read some of these clever suggestions.

It is often difficult to get disability benefits in the first place. This makes returning to work seem a risky proposition: What if you try to go to work and you are really not ready. If you fail, will you lose your disability benefits and have to start all over again? The book explains ways to protect some degree of benefits while easing back into the work force.

The two authors blend their areas of expertise to produce an outstanding book. The book is divided into sections with clear explanations and objectives. In the back of the book there are useful appendices with resources for further help and support.

Lighting the way home family bible
Most gorgeous bible I have seen. All the beautiful paintings will totally put you at peace while you're browsing this bible. All the inspirational verses and text are another way to get to know T. Kinkade, the artist and man. Have bought this for more then myself, everyone is just in awe seeing it. Scripture is very easy on the eyes, just done exquisitely, and with amazon.com
so affordable.

Inspiritational
I just received this bible for Christmas and I must say that it is the most beautiful bible that I have ever seen. Inside are pictures of Thomas Kinkade's work which are absolutely gorgous and inspiritational. If you are in the market to buy a new bible this is one I highly recommending purchasing. I was lucky enough to receive this as a gift.

Illuminating the Message
I can think of no finer artist to illustrate the Message than Thomas Kinkade! This magnificent volume is generously filled with his heart warming illustrations. Appropriately, his talent with a brush conveys his ability to capture the light and illuminate from within. I feel a stronger connection reading God's word with this Bible than I do with the one I have had for three decades. Indeed, worthy of being an heirloom!

Holy Bible King James Version Nelson Reference Bibles Special

Excellent Edition of the New King James Version
I received this edition as an anniversary gift, and have not been able to put it down. The cross-references are wonderful, and the translation definitions are very useful. I would recommend this highly - a beautifully bound, durable book.

A very readable, accurate, and reliable Bible version
When I first became a Christian I was reading the NIV, but upon comparing it to the word-for-word translation in an interlinear I realized that it was not that accurate. The reason for this is the NIV follows a "dynamic equivalence" (thought for thought) translation principle. So I changed to using the NASB, which follows a "formal equivalence" (word-for-word) principle. And the NASB did match up much better to the interlinear.

But then I began to investigate the issue of Greek text type. And my research convinced me that the Critical Text that the NIV and NASB are based on was less reliable than the Textus Receptus that the KJV and NKJV utilize. So I switched to the NKJV as my primary Bible, and have been using it as such for over a decade now.

Now I know there are many KJV-onlyists who consider the NKJV to be a "perversion" of the KJV. But I have taken the time to research their arguments and have found them to be faulty. I present my counter-arguments to the KJV-onlyists' arguments against the NKJV in much detail in the section on "KJV-onlyism" in my book Differences Between Bible Versions.

In my book I quote from numerous KJV-onlyist sources. I look at their arguments against the NKJV in general along with evaluating in detail their complaints on specific verses. And I conclude that yes, there are times the NKJV is not translated as accurately as it could be, but the same could be said for the KJV. And overall, both versions are very reliable.

But the big difference between these two versions is the KJV's use of Elizabethan English can make it very difficult to understand while the NKJV utilizes modern-day English and thus is relatively easy to read. And frankly I see no reason why I should struggle unnecessary with the KJV's archaic English when the NKJV is just as accurate while so much more readable.

To conclude, the NKJV is a very readable and accurate Bible version. One can read it with confidence that they are utilizing a reliable version of the Bible. If the reader wants even more confidence in this regard, then see my Bible versions book. Along with looking at the KJV and NKJV, my book also reviews over 30 other versions of the Bible.

NKJV easy to read
Nelson does a good job with Bibles, and the NKJV is easy to understand. It is also useful as a reference tool to be used with the KJV.
The Bible is God's word. He has revealed His plan for His creation in it, and those who care about what is going to happen in the long run will be glad to read the Bible.
